Proclamation Declaration of Emergency 3/23/2021

WHEREAS, ARS Section 26-311 authorizes the Mayor of the Town of Gila Bend, Arizona, or his designee to proclaim the existence or threatened existence of a local emergency when the Town of Gila Bend is affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity; and 

WHEREAS, the Town of Gila Bend was notified by the US Border Patrol that undocumented 

immigrants detained by them would be transported and released by them in the Town of Gila Bend with little or no notice of the same; and 

WHEREAS, the Town of Gila Bend was advised that the undocumented immigrants have not been tested for COVID-19 or any contagious diseases whatsoever, and that no background search has been conducted on the same immigrants as they would only hold them for a maximum 72 hours; and 

WHEREAS, the Town of Gila Bend believes that this is a federal immigration issue, and not a 

local community issue. 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED that a local emergency exists currently and continues to exist in the Town of Gila Bend, and 

THIS PROCLAMATION was passed unanimously by the Town Council of the Town of Gila Bend at the regularly scheduled meeting held on March 23, 2021, and shall be in immediate effect and not 

expire unless extended or modified.
